WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13th :
Basilica will be closed to visitors from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm for a security exercise.

Opening hours

The basilic is open every day from 6.30am to 10.30pm.  It closes later on major religious holidays (Easter Vigil, the day before Easter), for some vigil prayers, and for the Holy Hour prayer the first Thursday of each month (from 11pm to midnight).

Every day, no less than four masses are celebrated at the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur. Five masses on Fridays, including Friday’s 3pm mass.

From Tuesday to Sunday, the Benedictine Sisters of the Sacré-Cœur of Montmartre pray the Divine Office in the basilica.

At the basilica entrance, a Benedictine Sister of the Sacré-Cœur of Montmartre (or one of our volunteers) is on duty at the Welcome Desk to answer all your questions.
Do not hesitate to ask them any question you may have on your visit, our activities, to share a prayer intention or meet with a Sister.

Disabled access

Elevator access to the basilica, for people with disabilities or mobility issues, can be found at the back of the basilica (35 rue du Chevalier de la Barre). Open from 8.30am to 6.30pm.

A few tips for your visit

You enter a holy place. The basilic is landmark in the Parisian landscape, however it is first and foremost a church where thousands of visitors come to pray every day.

Visitors, please dress appropriately and remain silent.

Thank you for not talking on your cell phone, and rather use it to discover our audio tour which will guide you step by step!  The audio tour is proposed by the Art, Culture and Faith Association : you will discover the must-see parts of the basilica as soon as you enter it, and when walking through its ambulatory.

No prior reservation needs to be made for groups. However we ask group leaders to ensure that the utmost discretion is observed

In the central nave, due to mass and office celebrations and to respect the presence of the exposed Blessed Sacrament – for the Catholics, it is the real presence of Christ – please enter only in areas dedicated solely to prayer (first part of the nave).

Throughout your visit, thank you for respecting everyone’s prayer by helping to keep the basilica as silent as possible. Pilgrims from all over the world come to pray at the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur!

To guide you during your tour, a special issue of the Connaissance des Arts magazine (The Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur of Montmartre) is available in English at our shop.

Photos and professional photos and films
